A majority of senators struck down the proposal with 72 voting to kill the measure, and 11 supporting it.

While it was defeated, the move shows an unease among Democrats over support for Israel.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sanders said “It should not be controversial for Congress to ask for information on how US arms are being used in Israel’s military campaign in Palestine.”

He added that his resolution would direct the State Department to report on any human rights violations that may have occurred using US equipment in Israel’s war on Gaza.
