Flood warnings remain in effect across central Texas after the Guadalupe River rose by eight meters (over 26 feet) in just 45 minutes, causing chaos at a summer camp in Kerr County that was hosting hundreds of girls.
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Letha said during a press conference last night that 27 girls from "Camp Mystik" in Kerr County are still missing. Around 750 girls were present at the camp, located on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd confirmed that air, land, and water rescue teams are conducting search operations along the river to find survivors and recover bodies.
“We will continue searching until all the missing are accounted for,” Kidd stated.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he will expand the state disaster declaration and request additional federal resources.
The flooding began on Friday when several months’ worth of rain fell in just a few hours.
The National Weather Service has warned of further flooding as more rain is expected in the coming days.
