Israel began launching a wave of airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, early Wednesday, simultaneously with strikes it is carrying out against targets inside Iran, according to a statement by the Israeli military.
The Israeli army said it had launched an additional “wave of strikes” on Tehran after explosions were heard in the Iranian capital.
In a statement, the military said: “The Israel Defense Forces are currently launching an additional wave of strikes in Tehran targeting infrastructure belonging to the Iranian terrorist regime.”
Israel and the United States have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, February 28. The strikes reportedly led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has been responding by launching missiles and drones toward Israel and countries in the region.
Iran has also imposed a maritime blockade on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and has targeted oil tankers attempting to transit the strait.
