According to a military statement: "The Air Force has just begun a massive wave of simultaneous raids against infrastructure belonging to the Iranian terror regime in Tehran, Isfahan, and southern Iran."
Simultaneous Operations in Lebanon
In parallel, the Israeli military initiated a "limited and targeted" ground raid in southern Lebanon. The stated objective is to locate and eliminate militants and dismantle Hezbollah's infrastructure. The military noted that prior to the ground incursion, several targets were struck from the air and by artillery to "enhance forward defensive positions and provide an additional layer of protection for residents of northern Israel."
Targets in Central Iran
This marks the first significant escalation since the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader. Powerful explosions shook the Iranian capital on Monday morning. While specific targets remain classified, the Israeli military confirmed the strikes hit:
Missile production facilities: Specifically sites for missile engine manufacturing.
Launch Sites: Several long-range ballistic missile positions.
Military & Internal Security Infrastructure: Expanding strikes against the Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) and the Basij.
Command Centers: Including the "Provincial Corps Command" and "LEF Command" in Isfahan, alongside Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) police headquarters.
The statement characterized the Iranian security forces as "part of the terror regime's apparatus that has systematically practiced violence against Iranian citizens for years."
Retaliatory Attacks and Casualties
In response, Iranian forces launched a cluster missile toward central Israel. Magen David Adom (Israel's emergency service) reported two serious injuries in the town of Yehud, near Ben Gurion Airport. Additional reports from Channel 14 and the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) confirmed that the cluster munitions impacted several locations, including Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, and areas north of the capital.
This escalation follows the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28. Since then, the conflict has expanded into a regional war involving a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and an "open war" between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
