The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that it has "begun a large-scale wave of strikes against the Iranian regime's infrastructure in Tehran."
Local media reported several explosions on Thursday morning in Tehran and its western perimeter, following Israel's announcement of a new series of strikes on the Iranian capital. The Fars News Agency reported an explosion in western Tehran, while the Shargh and Iran newspapers reported at least one blast in the city of Karaj, located west of the capital.
Earlier on Thursday dawn, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported hearing several explosions in Tehran as Iran activated its air defense systems. These explosions occurred after Iran launched a new wave of missiles toward Israel early Thursday morning.
Israel and the United States have been conducting airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has retaliated by striking Israel and regional countries with missiles and drones.
Furthermore, Iran has enforced a naval blockade on vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz, targeting oil tankers attempting to pass. On Sunday, Hezbollah launched several rockets from Lebanon targeting northern Israel in response to Khamenei’s assassination, drawing Lebanon into an open war with Israel, which has since carried out devastating raids on southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh).
