Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened on Wednesday to assassinate any Iranian leader chosen to succeed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran.

In a post on "X" (formerly Twitter), Katz stated: "Any leader chosen by the Iranian regime to continue leading the plan to destroy Israel and threaten the United States, the free world, and the countries of the region—while suppressing the Iranian people—will be a definitive target for assassination, regardless of their name or where they hide."
Israel and the United States have been launching airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has retaliated by targeting Israel and regional countries with missiles and drones.
Furthermore, Iran has enforced a naval blockade on vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz, targeting oil tankers attempting to pass through the strategic waterway.
On Sunday, Hezbollah launched several rockets from Lebanon targeting northern Israel in response to Khamenei's assassination. This escalation has dragged Lebanon into an open war with Israel, which has carried out devastating raids on southern Lebanon and the Dahiyeh (southern suburbs) of Beirut. — (Agencies)
