Earlier, Istanbul’s Criminal Court issued 37 arrest warrants against Israeli officials for alleged genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including Netanyahu. Warrants were also issued for Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The full list of suspects has not been disclosed.
According to Istanbul prosecutors, the warrants were issued due to the systematic killing and injuring of thousands of civilians, including women and children, rendering residential areas uninhabitable in Gaza.
Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Israel Beiteinu party, commented that Erdoğan’s arrest orders against senior Israeli officials illustrate why Turkey should not have a presence—directly or indirectly—in Gaza.
Netanyahu reiterated this week his rejection of Turkish forces participating in a proposed international deployment in Gaza, stating to senior reservist officers: “There will be no Turkish forces in Gaza.”
Last year, Turkey joined a lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing Tel Aviv of committing genocide. The proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump established a fragile ceasefire in Gaza on October 10, following two years of destructive conflict.
