The first explosion occurred early Monday morning on Bahonar Street in Rasht, the provincial capital. It destroyed a building housing gold shops, a language institute, and electronic game stores.
Shahram Momeni, head of the Fire Department in Rasht, stated that the incident was caused by a gas explosion, injuring 18 people, 16 of whom were transported to hospitals.
According to Iran’s official news agency (IRNA), the second explosion took place Sunday evening in Rezvanshahr. The city's fire chief, Asghar Vosough, confirmed the incident.
He added that the second blast caused no injuries but inflicted material damage to a residential building, noting that "the investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact cause."
Videos circulated on social media showing the aftermath of the explosion in Rasht, with smoke rising and rescue teams on site.
Local authorities said they had launched a comprehensive technical investigation, as public calls grow for a review of gas systems in both commercial and residential buildings.
The incidents come amid public concern over the recurrence of such accidents, especially with rising temperatures and increased energy consumption during the summer.
