The Iraqi Armed Forces affirmed on Tuesday that the process of restricting weapons to the control of the state is being managed with national responsibility, aiming to maintain the country's stability and strengthen official institutions' ability to protect citizens' security.

Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stated that the initiative to regulate weapons stems from a national vision to protect the security of Iraqis and consolidate comprehensive stability. He emphasized that the measures taken do not target any specific group or party, but rather seek to unify national efforts in managing the defense and security framework.
In statements to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Numan added that the sacrifices of the Iraqi Armed Forces across all its formations during battles against terrorism remain "a matter of constant appreciation by the General Command." He underscored that regulating arms under the umbrella of the law and official institutions does not diminish any past national efforts in defending the country.
He explained that dialogue with various national forces and political entities regarding this issue is grounded in constitutional principles, noting that the matter is being handled with a high degree of responsibility to uphold the prestige of the state and enhance citizen safety.
He further noted that restricting weapons also aims to thwart any attempts to undermine national unity or threaten Iraq's stability.
