Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi directed on Wednesday the convening of an emergency meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security.

In a statement broadcast by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Security Media Cell stated that "the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, directed an emergency meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security to be held."

The statement added that "the meeting was called following developments in the security situation and the airstrikes that the country was subjected to at dawn today."

It further noted that "a detailed statement regarding the course of events and the decisions made will be issued following this meeting."

Earlier on Wednesday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with the US Central Command (CENTCOM), carried out targeted, precision strikes against sites belonging to pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, which it said were linked to attacks targeting oil facilities in the Kingdom.

The official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense stated that the operation came after intercepting and destroying a number of drones that attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh regions, confirming that those attacks were launched from Iraqi territory and executed by pro-Iranian militias.

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia does not seek escalation, but will respond to any attack it is subjected to.اضافة اعلان
