YouTube announced Wednesday a new feature called “Custom Feeds,” allowing users to describe, in their own words, the type of videos they want YouTube to recommend.

According to TechCrunch, users can create a custom feed by writing a description of what they want the feed to include in a dedicated prompt box on YouTube, whether it is designed around a particular interest or another purpose.
For example, YouTube suggests users could create a feed featuring video podcasts to watch during a 30-minute train journey, or request videos suited to a particular mood, such as “calm commentary videos that help me relax,” according to the website.
The new feature uses Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence model to create the feed based on the user’s request. Once created, the feed is pinned to the top of YouTube’s homepage under a separate tab.
Because the feature is powered by artificial intelligence, users can make detailed and lengthy requests specifying how they want the feed organized, the type of content they want included or excluded, the topics they want prioritized, and other preferences.
