The new standard, which is set to take effect on April 1, 2027, imposes a series of rigorous requirements. It mandates enhanced safety protection for portable chargers under various misuse scenarios, such as high temperatures, overcharging, and exposure to physical pressure.

According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, a new test for lithium plating after cycle aging has been added to the protocol. This is specifically designed to reduce the risks of internal short circuits that can occur after prolonged use.

Furthermore, devices must now be equipped with functions to store and read abnormal operation data.

The standard also requires every product to carry a unique identification code, allowing consumers to access essential information such as the battery brand.

Once the standard is enforced, consumers will be permitted to continue possessing and using previously purchased portable energy storage devices, provided they comply with specifications and carry a valid China Compulsory Certificate (CCC).

This standard, developed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is expected to strengthen the regulation of the portable energy storage market, encourage technological upgrades within the industry, and provide better protection for consumer safety and rights. — (Al-Arabiya)
