Relatively new buttons have appeared on recent iPhone models: the Action Button and the Camera Control button. Apple introduced the Action Button first with the iPhone 15 Pro models, before expanding the use of these buttons in later generations.
The Action Button sits above the volume controls and can be customized to perform various tasks, from turning the ringer on or off to launching different shortcuts and apps.
The Camera Control button, located on the lower right side of the device, was designed to provide quick access to the camera and control over some of its settings.
What Does the Camera Control Button Do?
The Camera Control button allows users to quickly open the Camera app and take photos, and can also be swiped to access a small settings menu for adjusting zoom level and other shooting options.
But one of the main reasons for the button's existence is tied to AI.
Apple has been investing heavily in AI technology through its "Apple Intelligence" system, which has become the foundation for a number of features and updates the company has added to its operating system, including updates within iOS 26.
The Camera Control button serves as a direct gateway to "Visual Intelligence," an AI-powered feature that lets users point the iPhone's camera at real-world objects to get additional information about them.
While the feature offers practical uses in some cases, it may not be necessary for all users — particularly those who don't rely on visual intelligence functions.
A Button That's Easy to Trigger by Accident
The Camera Control button is roughly the same length as the power button, and its placement makes it prone to accidental presses.
Pressing it unintentionally can open the camera while the phone is in a pocket, while using navigation apps during driving, or even when trying to turn the phone off.

The Option to Disable the Button
Apple provides an option to fully disable the Camera Control button for those who don't want to use it.
This can be done by opening Settings on the iPhone, selecting Camera, then going into Camera Control.
From within the Camera Control settings, select Accessibility, then turn off the Camera Control option.
Those experiencing issues with the button's excessive sensitivity can also adjust the number of presses required to activate it, as well as change the amount of pressure needed to trigger it.

This way, users can either fully disable the Camera Control button or adjust its sensitivity, instead of continuing to accidentally trigger the camera or AI features.
