The platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is reportedly planning to completely remove its Direct Messaging (DM) system, sparking a wave of concern and questions among users about the future of private communication on the platform.

According to software engineer Zach Waronic, who responded to a user complaining about DM issues, the platform's messaging system will soon be removed entirely. His comment has prompted speculation that significant changes might be introduced without prior notice. Others have interpreted it as a potential redesign of the DM system rather than its full removal.
The DM system on X has already stirred considerable controversy in recent months, particularly after X Premium users were granted expanded privileges allowing them to message any account—raising concerns about privacy and user safety.
There’s growing speculation that the platform might launch a standalone messaging app, similar to how Meta separated Messenger from Facebook, or integrate a completely redesigned messaging interface within the main app.
Some observers warn that if this move materializes, it could negatively impact user experience and prompt users to reconsider their engagement with the platform.
