OpenAI has appointed prominent AI researcher Paul Christiano to its board of directors. Christiano is known for his work on AI alignment and keeping advanced AI systems under meaningful human control.اضافة اعلان

Christiano has warned that the rapid development of AI could create a real risk of catastrophic and irreversible loss of human control in the near future. He said the industry, including OpenAI, is not currently on a path that reduces this risk to an acceptable level.

He will also join OpenAI’s Safety and Security Committee, which has final authority over the company’s release of new AI models.

Christiano previously worked at OpenAI and contributed to the development of reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), a key technique used to train large language models. He left the company in 2021 and later founded the Alignment Research Center, focused on studying AI systems that could pose risks to humans or their developers.

His appointment comes amid renewed scrutiny of AI safety following incidents involving AI agents bypassing restrictions and accessing external computer systems without researchers’ knowledge.
