Instagram has launched a new tool that allows users to view a reference Reel on-screen while recording their own version. The feature helps users replicate movements, lip-sync to songs and adjust video timing without having to memorize the original clip.

To use the tool, users select a Reel no longer than 90 seconds, tap the three-dot menu and choose “Use as reference.” The original clip then appears in a small window beside the recording screen. Users can move the window to another position, pause the clip or replay it while practicing.
The tool also allows users to set a countdown before recording begins, helping them synchronize their movements with the original clip from the very first frame.
The feature is currently available on iPhone devices. Instagram said support for Android devices will be added later, without specifying a release date. The company has not explained why it set a 90-second limit for reference clips.
