WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta, is working on a new feature that will enable Android users to archive their status updates after they expire.

Currently, once a status update reaches the 24-hour limit, WhatsApp automatically deletes it from the app without creating a backup. These updates become invisible to contacts, and users cannot access or restore them unless they have manually saved them beforehand.
The "Status Archive" Feature
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a site specializing in WhatsApp updates, the app aims to address this by introducing a "Status Archive" feature. Instead of complete deletion, the built-in archive will automatically save status updates once their 24-hour duration ends.
Privacy and Functionality
Private Access: Archived updates will be saved privately on the device, meaning the archive remains visible only to the user.
Management: Users can open the archive section to view, organize, or reuse previous status updates whenever needed.
Automatic Operation: The feature works in the background, requiring no manual action to save updates after they expire.
User Control: Users can manually delete any archived update at any time if they no longer wish to keep it.
Optional Settings
The feature will be optional. Users can choose to enable the archiving of their status updates via the app settings. For those who prefer the current system, the feature can be disabled entirely so that updates are not saved after they disappear.
The Status Archive feature is currently under development and is expected to be released in a future update for the WhatsApp Android application.
