Dmitry Dokukin, Head of Accessories at MTS, notes that leaving a charger permanently plugged in can cause the outlet to melt, fuses to explode, and even lead to a fire at home.

According to him, this risk is especially high with cheap chargers that lack brand or manufacturer information.
He explains:
“Any power supply device deteriorates over time, especially if constantly connected to the electricity network. Continuous current accelerates wear on its components, and at some point, the device may overheat, spark, or even cause an electrical short circuit.
In the worst-case scenario, this can lead to melting the outlet, exploding fuses, or triggering a fire. While such incidents are rare in daily life, they do occur with low-quality devices.”
He adds that inexpensive adapters often skimp on insulation and overheating protection. As a result, they may “burn” internally if left plugged in for long periods. The risk of fire increases significantly if the home’s electrical wiring is old or poorly connected.
High-quality adapters from reputable brands are generally tested to electronic safety standards and have proper wiring, making them safe under normal use.
Even so, he advises not leaving chargers plugged in for long periods, especially near flammable materials or unattended.
Dokukin emphasizes that unplugging the charger after use extends the device’s lifespan and reduces the risk of unpleasant surprises.
He also warns:
“If the charger starts to heat up, makes crackling noises, emits a bad smell, or the cable is worn, it’s best to dispose of it immediately. The cost of a new charger is far less than the potential consequences.”
