Apple announced that it will change the mechanism of rolling out its security updates, by releasing vulnerability fixes to users earlier than usual, instead of waiting for them to be integrated with major iOS updates, in a move aimed at countering the growing risks posed by artificial intelligence to cybersecurity.

The company said in statements to Reuters that rapid advances in artificial intelligence technologies have contributed to reducing the time it takes for attackers to develop vulnerability tools, prompting it to reconsider the schedule for the release of security updates.
The decision marks a change in policy that Apple has followed for years, often postponing fixing vulnerabilities until a major new operating system update is released, after its testing phase has ended.
Typically, security updates were released in conjunction with the transition from one version to another, such as the transition from iOS 26.5 to iOS 26.6, a period that gives developers and users participating in betas time to test the system and detect any issues before the official launch.
But Apple has made it clear that this time it will roll out the latest security fixes to all users before the full release of iOS 26.6, to reduce the time between discovering vulnerabilities and closing them.
The company confirmed that it has not detected any evidence of exploitation of the vulnerabilities included in the recent updates, but believes that accelerating the access of security fixes to users has become a necessity in light of the rapid development of AI-powered attack tools, which may reduce the time available for companies to address vulnerabilities before exploiting them.
