Neurologist Anton Tikhonovsky has warned that every 15 degrees of head tilt approximately doubles the pressure on the neck, advising against using smartphones in bed.اضافة اعلان

“The habit of using a smartphone in bed puts additional strain on the neck and back, especially when a person places the device on their stomach or knees and keeps their head tilted for extended periods,” he said.

According to Tikhonovsky, the most suitable position is to sit or recline with the back and neck supported by a firm pillow at an angle of approximately 45 to 60 degrees.

“Phones and tablets should not be placed on the stomach or knees, as this forces the head to bend forward. Every 15 degrees of bending approximately doubles the pressure on the cervical vertebrae,” he said.

He recommends placing the device on a firm pillow or a dedicated stand, about 30–40 centimetres from the face and approximately at chest or chin level.

The doctor also stresses that even a comfortable position does not address another problem: the continuous flow of information can keep a person in a state of emotional tension.

“Excessive scrolling through negative news in bed increases anxiety and stimulates the release of stress hormones, including cortisol and noradrenaline. As a result, falling asleep becomes more difficult and sleep becomes lighter. If this habit continues, a person may develop insomnia,” he said.
