Learn About the Risks of Using a Hair Dryer Daily
Dr. Sofia Bilash, a dermatologist and hair specialist, warned that daily use of a hair dryer may cause significant damage to the structure of the hair and the scalp.اضافة اعلان

She explained that the hair shaft is made up of three main layers:

The outer layer (cuticle): functions as a protective layer.

The middle layer (cortex): composed of scales bound together by lipids and makes up more than 80% of the hair’s mass, ensuring its strength and elasticity thanks to keratin.

The inner layer (medulla): contains natural pigment and contributes to the hair’s flexibility.

Bilash stated: “The temperature of the airflow during drying can reach between 40 and 120 degrees Celsius, which disrupts the structure of keratin protein and destroys stabilizing bonds, causing the hair to lose its strength and elasticity.”

She added that excessive heat damages the lipid layer of the cuticle, leading to moisture evaporation and detachment of the cuticle scales. As a result, the hair becomes weak, brittle, and prone to tangling. Regular exposure to hot air also disrupts the hydrolipid balance of the scalp, causing irritation, dryness, and dandruff.

To minimize these negative effects, the specialist recommends:

Using heat-protectant products before styling.

Choosing a medium temperature and keeping the hair dryer at least 15 cm away from the hair.

Allowing the hair to partially air-dry before styling.

Using moisturizing masks and conditioners regularly, applying them only to the hair.
