Aqaba — The Hareer Foundation for Community Development held its "Canvas of Hope" event in Aqaba, bringing together children with cancer and other participants alongside a number of visual artists and volunteers, as part of an initiative aimed at giving children an artistic and communal space away from hospitals and treatment settings.

The event featured a collaborative art piece created on Aqaba's beach, with children using color and drawing to express their thoughts and ideas, alongside artists and volunteers, in an event that combined artistic activity with community engagement.
Hareer Foundation founder Nihad Al-Dabbas said the choice of Aqaba to host the event was aimed at providing a different environment for the participating children, giving them the chance to take part in an artistic activity in an open, natural setting.
Al-Dabbas added that the foundation uses art and drawing as tools for psychological and social support for children with cancer, noting that a painting allows a child to express their thoughts and feelings through color and drawing, especially in cases where expressing themselves in words is difficult.
He explained that the "Canvas of Hope" initiative focuses on involving children in artistic and communal activities, strengthening their engagement with their surroundings, alongside providing activities that help them cope with the psychological and social effects that come with a period of treatment.
The event brought together children with cancer, along with artists and volunteers, with participants working together to create a joint art piece across a designated space for the activity.
Al-Dabbas noted that the event was carried out in cooperation with a number of official, tourism, and community entities, chief among them the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, which provided facilities and logistical support, alongside the Aqaba Development Corporation and the Jordan Maritime Authority, in cooperation with Tala Bay Resort's beach.
Al-Dabbas affirmed that partnership between official institutions, the tourism sector, and civil society organizations enables the implementation of community events at tourist and natural sites, providing participating children with a suitable environment for artistic, recreational, and social activities. He noted that, through the "Canvas of Hope" initiative, the Hareer Foundation is working to expand the scope of artistic events dedicated to children with cancer, involving the local community, volunteers, and artists in carrying them out, strengthening the presence of community support alongside medical care.
