American rapper Macklemore sparked widespread political controversy after chanting "Free Palestine" during his appearance at Ed Sheeran's concerts at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, before performing his protest song "Hind's Hall" as images related to Gaza were displayed on the stadium's screens.

Macklemore said his desire to speak about Palestine was one of the reasons he joined Sheeran's tour, stressing that criticizing Israel and its policies is not the same as criticizing Jewish people.
The American artist emphasized that his message calls for peace, dignity, and equality, before calling for freedom for Palestine, Lebanon, Cuba, Congo, and Sudan, as well as for people living in fear of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Macklemore had released "Hind's Hall" in 2024, taking its title from the pro-Palestinian student protests at Columbia University.
His remarks drew mixed reactions. Pro-Israel organizations called on Ed Sheeran to "clarify his position on the political content presented during the concert, and whether he had given prior approval."
The American Israeli Council also launched a petition demanding "clear limits be set on political messaging for the rest of the tour."
Supporters, on the other hand, defended Macklemore, arguing that his stance on the war of annihilation in Gaza has "been known for years," and that his remarks came "as part of a broader call for peace and respect for human rights."
Ed Sheeran has not issued any public comment on the controversy, while Macklemore remains listed among the tour's participants, which is set to resume in Philadelphia on September 19.
