Prices of vegetable and fruit products, both
domestic and imported, in the Qatari market have risen to possibly an
unprecedented level with prices of some products jumping at a double rate, at
best, the majority have risen from 30 to 40 percent.
According to Issa Mansouri, a Qatari trader and
manager of a well-known food import company in Doha, Qatar’s vegetable and
fruit market has been in high demand for over two weeks, contributing to a
dramatic rise in prices, especially for imported products.
As a result, there has been a need to increase
imports from the Jordanian market at levels higher than usual at such times of
year.
Jordan’s vegetable
products now account for a large share of the consumption of the Qatari market,
with the Kingdom’s vegetables characterized by their high quality and very
favorable competitive prices compared to their foreign counterparts.
