Government Reduces Flour and Wheat Prices Despite Global Surges
The government has announced a new package of measures regarding flour and wheat prices for the month of April. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the stability of Arabic bread prices, despite challenges posed by rising production costs—most notably fuel prices, which recently saw a domestic hike following global oil price fluctuations.اضافة اعلان

According to official data released by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, the price of unified flour has been reduced by 7.797 JOD per ton, bringing the new price to 167.475 JOD per ton, compared to 175.272 JOD last month. This move reflects the government's direction to ease the financial burden on the bakery sector and ensure a continuous supply of this essential commodity to the local market.

The reduction also extended to wheat, where the price per ton dropped by 6.083 JOD to reach 136.238 JOD per ton, down from 142.321 JOD in the previous month. This step is expected to contribute to lowering the overall production costs across the bread-making supply chain.

The Ministry emphasized that these decisions are based on the Cabinet's resolution to fix Arabic bread prices. It noted that it periodically reviews production costs and adjusts prices—whether up or down—to strike a balance between protecting the consumer and ensuring the sustainability of bakery operations.

Furthermore, the Ministry explained that while the recent rise in global oil prices led to a direct increase in operating and production costs, the government was keen to absorb a portion of this increase. By adjusting the prices of production inputs, primarily flour and wheat, the government aims to prevent any price hikes from reaching the citizens for bread, which remains a staple commodity.

The Ministry concluded by stressing that the policy of fixing bread prices will continue, alongside close monitoring of local and global market variables, affirming that the government will not hesitate to take additional measures to safeguard food security and alleviate living burdens on citizens.
