Director General of Jordan Customs, Major General of Customs Ahmad Al-Akalik, said that the Al-Karamah Border Crossing is witnessing heavy cargo movement, which is being handled with high efficiency through qualified staff working professionally and quickly, while adhering to the highest quality standards in performance.
Al-Akalik added, during a meeting at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to discuss the reality of transit trade, that transit procedures are considered a globally recognized concept and are subject to international frameworks and standards that ensure the smooth flow of goods and enhance customs work efficiency.
He pointed to a high level of coordination and cooperation with neighboring countries in organizing transit trade, which contributes to facilitating procedures and strengthening regional integration in transport and trade exchange.
He explained that Jordan Customs is open to all observations and suggestions from partners, in a way that supports the development of customs procedures and improves the services provided.
In a related context, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce discussed the current state of transit trade, as well as opportunities and challenges in light of the current regional conditions, with the participation of representatives from the public and private sectors and relevant entities.
Participants stressed the importance of strengthening Jordan’s position as a regional logistics hub capable of keeping pace with changes in global trade movement, and benefiting from its geographical location, security stability, and infrastructure.
They also emphasized the need to develop the transport and logistics system and simplify customs and administrative procedures to ensure the smooth movement of goods through ports and crossings, and to enhance Jordan’s role in transit trade.
The meeting included representatives from the Jordan Customs Department, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Transport Regulatory Commission, the Jordan Maritime Commission, the Syndicate of Clearance and Goods Transport Companies, the Truck Owners Syndicate, the Jordan Logistics Association, the Free Zones Investors Authority, the Jordan Navigation Syndicate, and Royal Jordanian Airlines, in addition to representatives from commercial and service sectors.
