US Vice President J.D. Vance said Iran would not be able to build a nuclear weapon tomorrow, within the next six months, or even within a year, even if it attempted to do so.
Speaking to Newsmax, Vance said the administration of President Donald Trump is seeking to ensure that Tehran does not have the resources and infrastructure needed to rebuild its nuclear program.
Vance said the United States had destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities in what he described as a “stunning tactical strike,” stressing that destroying the facilities alone was not enough. Washington, he said, wants to ensure that Iran cannot rebuild its nuclear program over the next two, three or even ten years.
He said Iran responded to the destruction of its nuclear program by threatening international commercial shipping, adding that its continued launches of missiles and drones at commercial vessels had contributed to higher fuel prices.
Vance said the United States is doing everything it can to ensure the continued flow of oil and gas and will continue to counter Iran’s attempts to threaten international commercial shipping.
He blamed Iran for the rise in fuel prices, attributing it to what he described as threats to maritime navigation and attacks on commercial vessels.
