During a press conference at the White House, Trump clarified: "This incident will not deter me from winning the war on Iran."
When asked if he believed he was the intended target, he responded: "I believe so."
Details of the Breach
The President confirmed that an armed man, "carrying multiple weapons and wearing a bulletproof vest," breached a security checkpoint during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, resulting in the injury of a law enforcement officer.
"They believe the attacker acted alone, and I believe so too," Trump added, describing the suspect as a "potential killer."
The Evacuation
Secret Service agents had rushed Trump and First Lady Melania out of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Saturday night after gunfire was heard. Approximately one hour after the evacuation, Trump posted on "Truth Social" that "the shooter has been apprehended."
He commented: "An eventful night in Washington. The Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job."
Moments of Chaos
Immediately after the shots rang out, the room fell silent before people began shouting, "Get down! Get down!"
Hundreds of guests took cover under tables as Secret Service agents in combat gear swarmed the dining hall. Trump and Melania shielded themselves behind the podium before being whisked away by security. Many of the 2,600 attendees remained in hiding, while hotel staff rushed toward the front of the hall.
