In a post on the Truth Social platform following a ceasefire between the two nations, Trump wrote:
“I am extremely proud of the strong and steadfast leadership of both India and Pakistan, for demonstrating the strength, wisdom, and resolve needed to understand the right moment to de-escalate a situation that could have led to widespread death and destruction. Millions of innocent lives were at risk! Your legacy has been greatly strengthened by this brave decision.”
He added:
“I am also proud that the United States helped you reach this historic and courageous decision. Although it wasn't part of our original discussions, I now intend to significantly expand trade with these two great nations. We will also work together to see if it is possible to resolve the Kashmir issue after a thousand years of conflict.”
President Trump had announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire, facilitated by U.S. mediation.
Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed Saturday that the ceasefire with Pakistan came into effect at 5:00 p.m. local time, with instructions issued to both sides to implement the agreement.
For his part, Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar stated that military communication channels and hotlines between New Delhi and Islamabad had been activated. He noted that around 30 countries had participated in the active diplomatic efforts.
