U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was unfriendly, pointing to a conspiracy against him involving Epstein and author Michael Wolff.

On his Truth Social account, Trump wrote: “My relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was not only unfriendly, but based on information just released by the Department of Justice, Epstein conspired with a dishonest and depraved ‘author’ named Michael Wolff to harm me and/or my presidency. This is how the hopes of the radical left, some of whom I will be suing, are dashed.”
Trump added: “Furthermore, unlike many people who enjoy gossiping and spreading nonsense, I never went to Epstein’s notorious island, whereas almost all of these corrupt Democrats and their funders did.”
Earlier in the day, Trump emphasized that he had never visited Epstein’s infamous island and insisted that he never came near it at any time.
Wolff’s name appeared in several Epstein documents released last November, where he seemed to act as an informal advisor and promoter of the infamous financier prior to the 2016 elections.
In February 2016, Wolff suggested that Epstein could be “the bullet” that would end Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Wolff responded to an email from Epstein saying, “Yes, you are Trump’s bullet,” after Epstein noted that more journalists were contacting him as Trump’s poll numbers rose.
In another email, Wolff proposed intimidating Trump for personal gain, with Epstein warning that the Republican candidate might be questioned about their alleged ties during the campaign.
Wolff wrote to Epstein in December 2015: “I heard CNN plans to ask Trump tonight about his relationship with you, either on air or at a rally afterward.” He added in a follow-up email the next day: “I think you should let him hang himself.”
Wolff continued: “If he says he wasn’t on the plane or at the house, this gives you a valuable political and PR asset. You can hang him in a way that benefits you, or if it looks like he might win, you can save him, making him indebted to you.”
When asked about these documents at the time, Wolff said he did not recall the context. The London Times quoted him describing Epstein as “an immensely valuable source”: “Part of the context was that I was pressuring Epstein at the time to publicly reveal what he knew about Trump.”
