NATO to Discuss Strait of Hormuz Crisis and Proposed Maritime Mission with Gulf States
NATO foreign ministers are meeting with their Gulf counterparts on Tuesday to discuss the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and other regional security issues, including a French-British proposal to launch a multinational maritime mission an initiative that Iran has so far rejected.اضافة اعلان

The meeting is being held on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara and includes foreign ministers from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

It comes after weeks of tensions in the strategically vital waterway despite a temporary peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran.

Earlier on Tuesday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an oil tanker east of Limah in the Sultanate of Oman had been targeted.

Meanwhile, Axios previously reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had launched at least two missiles at commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Ahead of the meeting, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said, "Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf were directly targeted by Iranian attacks this spring."

He added, "Their stability and our stability are closely linked. This goes beyond the Strait of Hormuz itself, important as it is for Europe's energy security."
