UN Assessment Reveals Disparities in Public Space Distribution in Sahab
The United Nations Human Rights Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) has released findings indicating that the city of Sahab, located in the Amman Governorate, suffers from fragmentation and an imbalance in the distribution of its public spaces.اضافة اعلان

The report suggests that reimagining these areas as an interconnected, human-centric network presents a vital opportunity to enhance urban greening, improve mobility, and bolster the city's resilience against climate challenges. Such efforts would contribute to creating more vibrant and sustainable urban environments while helping to mitigate air pollution.

Rethinking Sahab: Toward a Resilient Future
In collaboration with the Sahab Municipality and with support from the City of Basel, Switzerland, UN-Habitat launched the first report under the project: "Rethinking Sahab: Urban Greening for a Resilient and Sustainable Future."

The report, titled "City-Wide Public Space Assessment," serves as a fundamental step toward developing short-, medium-, and long-term greening plans. It also aims to build a comprehensive database to support inclusive urban planning responsive to climate change.

Methodology and Framework
The assessment utilized a structured methodology to analyze Sahab’s public spaces across three primary categories:

Streets

Open Spaces

Public Facilities

The analysis followed a multi-dimensional framework covering environmental quality, inclusivity, connectivity, and accessibility. The project draws inspiration from Basel’s expertise in designing and managing multi-use public spaces, adapting those lessons to Sahab’s local context. This assessment forms the foundation for the project’s second phase: the "Green Public Space Plan," which will act as a practical roadmap for Sahab’s transformation.

Goals and Impact
The ultimate goal of the project is to enhance the quality of life for all residents—including host communities, refugees, and migrants—while supporting national and global urban development agendas.
