Trade Balance with the U.S. Records JD 674 Million Surplus in Eight Months
Amman - Jordan’s trade balance with the United States achieved a surplus of JD 674 million from January through August this year, according to data from the Department of Statistics.اضافة اعلان

Statistics obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra) revealed that national exports to the U.S. maintained robust growth, amounting to JD 1.504 billion by the end of August 2023. This figure represents a 13.5% increase compared to JD 1.325 billion during the same period last year.

On the import side, Jordan’s purchases from the U.S. for the first eight months totaled around JD 830 million, a slight decrease from JD 832 million in the corresponding period of 2022, marking a 0.2% drop.

Consequently, the total trade exchange between Jordan and the U.S. rose to JD 2.334 billion by August’s end, compared to JD 2.157 billion in the same period of the previous year. Notably, exports to the U.S. constituted 26.6% of Jordan’s total exports.

The primary Jordanian exports to the U.S. include apparel and accessories, jewelry, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, information technology services, food products, live animals, and engineering goods.

Jordan’s imports from the U.S., meanwhile, largely consist of mineral products, transportation equipment, electrical machinery, grains, chemical products, medical devices, food manufacturing products, wood pulp, animal products, furniture, iron goods, used clothing, vegetable oils, and wood products.

The Jordan-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, signed in October 2000 and fully operational by January 2010, has significantly boosted bilateral trade, with an estimated increase of 800% since its inception.
