Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mazen Al-Qadi, stated during his presidency of a meeting held by the Parliamentary Labor, Social Development, and Population Committee on Sunday, that the draft amendment to the Social Security Law is one of the most vital pieces of legislation. He noted that it directly impacts the core of Jordanian citizens' lives and affects a wide segment of workers and employers, necessitating an in-depth and responsible national discussion.
Al-Qadi—in the presence of the Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Mohammad Al-Jitan, and several board members—confirmed that the House decided, through the Parliamentary Labor Committee, to launch a broad national dialogue regarding the draft law. This approach aims to engage with all concerned parties, allowing for the consideration of all perspectives and observations that contribute to enriching the debate and refining the legislative texts.
He pointed out the House's commitment to meeting with all relevant stakeholders, listening to their views, and considering their proposals. He emphasized the importance of taking sufficient time to conduct dialogues with chambers of industry and commerce, professional syndicates, political parties, and civil society organizations, thereby enhancing a participatory approach in the law-making process.
Al-Qadi praised the role played by the chambers of industry and other participating entities in the dialogue, expressing appreciation for their proposals due to their importance in developing and improving the draft law’s provisions. He stressed that all opinions and remarks are highly valued by the House and the Labor Committee.
Furthermore, he asserted that the House is keen on following a parallel path that simultaneously protects the rights of social security subscribers and strengthens the institution's sustainability. The goal is to reach common ground and solutions that achieve balance between all stakeholders and serve the national interest.
