Adnan Al-Sawa'ir, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), announced that tourism booking cancellations in Petra reached 100% for the current month of March. This total collapse is attributed to the surrounding regional conditions and their impact on tourism movement.اضافة اعلان

Al-Sawa'ir stated on Monday that the cancellation rate for April has reached 60%, while May bookings have seen a 45% cancellation rate, noting that these figures are likely to rise.

He explained that while Petra began 2026 with promising indicators regarding tourist numbers, these figures have dropped significantly, reaching "zero levels" at certain periods due to the regional situation. He emphasized that Petra is among the cities most affected, especially since its community relies economically and primarily on the tourism sector.

Al-Sawa'ir confirmed that the PDTRA has begun taking preventive measures to protect sector workers and maintain their job security by activating domestic tourism programs, such as the "Urdunnan Jannah" (Our Jordan is a Paradise) program.

Furthermore, he added that the Authority will utilize the period of the city's vacancy to implement development, cleaning, and infrastructure rehabilitation projects. — (Al-Mamlaka)
