According to Omar Salameh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, dam storage currently stands at only 31% of total capacity—about 90 million cubic meters—marking a decline of nearly 50 million cubic meters compared to the same time last year.
Salameh noted that the ministry is actively working on a project to reduce water loss. So far, it has successfully brought losses down to 46.3%, with a consistent annual reduction rate of 2%. Each percentage point in reduction translates to approximately 5 million cubic meters of water saved.
The drop in rainfall this year has raised public concerns about potential reductions in household and subscription water supplies across the country.
