AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) was accepted as a member of the UN World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO) on Thursday during a meeting of the organization’s
executive committee in Marrakesh, Morocco, according to Khaberni.
“This an opportunity for advancing the tourism
sector by establishing development initiatives, organizing workshops, training
and rehabilitating the sector in Petra, and hosting tourist delegations and
conferences,” the PDTRA said in a statement.
The Jordanian delegation at the UNWTO meeting was
headed by Jordan Ambassador to Morocco Jumana Ghunaimat and included Chief
Commissioner of PDTRA Suleiman Al-Farajat.
Around 250 representatives of the member states of
the UNWTO participated in the meeting, including ministers and senior tourism
officials, representatives of public and private tourism institutions,
investors, and international media.
