In a televised statement, Bani Mustafa stressed that safe heating is part of the ministry’s responsibilities, underscoring its ongoing efforts to support and provide safe heating solutions for eligible families, benefiting thousands of households on a continuous basis.

She added that the decision to replace unsafe heaters, issued under directives from the Prime Minister, aims to safeguard citizens’ safety. She noted that the Cabinet’s decision includes supporting the replacement of 15,000 unsafe heaters for families that lack safe heating alternatives.

Bani Mustafa explained that, in partnership with Tkiyet Um Ali and with support from the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, the ministry began replacing heaters on January 8, with 1,285 heaters replaced so far.

She added that the ministry has instructed social development directorates to begin receiving applications for heater replacement, noting that the ministry has ready lists of beneficiaries and will start distributing heaters to them next Sunday. She emphasized that replacement requires handing over the unsafe heaters for disposal.

The Cabinet had decided, during its session held on Monday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, to assign the Ministry of Social Development to replace 15,000 unsafe heaters with safe ones for eligible families and allocate the necessary funding. This will be implemented through social development centers across the governorates and Tkiyet Um Ali, as part of the social protection framework and within the “Safe Winter” campaign, which has been underway since the start of the winter season.

The decision comes as a continuation of the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Social Development and relevant ministries during every winter season through various initiatives and programs aimed at supporting eligible families.

The Cabinet also discussed the progress of procedures for disbursing financial assistance to eligible families affected by weather conditions, in accordance with the criteria and regulations set by the Ministry of Social Development / National Aid Fund, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Cabinet directed the completion of allocating financial funds for those affected and disbursing them after the relevant ministries complete the identification of beneficiaries following the submission of applications. Disbursements will continue sequentially, including compensation for lands affected by landslides in the Al-Marj area of Karak Governorate, funded from the emergency expenditure item in the current year’s general budget.

Relevant ministries have so far disbursed compensation to more than 120 families in affected areas as of Monday, and will continue doing so for additional eligible families in the coming days until all allocated funds are fully disbursed.

A study is also underway to compensate another group of families whose homes were damaged due to severe weather conditions and heavy rainfall, with the value of damages being assessed to provide compensation in accordance with applicable regulations and instructions.
