The Ministry of Labor has urged homeowners to take advantage of the legalization and status-rectification period approved by the Cabinet, which runs until September 30, 2026, to legalize non-compliant domestic workers in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law and the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law.
The ministry’s media spokesperson, Mohammad Ziyoud, stated that the Cabinet's decision includes a 50% exemption for homeowners or non-Jordanian domestic workers from work permit fees incurred during all previous periods.
Ziyoud added that the decision grants a 100% waiver on late renewal penalties for expired work permits, or when transferring to another employer within sectors where such transfers are permitted, provided the worker's permit has been expired for more than two years. Furthermore, non-compliant domestic workers subject to the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law will receive a 100% exemption from overstay fines, provided they rectify their status during this legalization and alignment window.
He noted that the decision also exempts non-compliant domestic workers who wish to leave the Kingdom permanently (final exit) from all previous work permit fees and penalties accrued up to their departure date. Additionally, these workers will receive a 100% waiver on residency overstay fines under the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law upon permanent departure, conditional on the final settlement of the worker's file.
Ziyoud emphasized that the ministry will issue deportation orders for any non-compliant domestic worker who fails to rectify their legal status in accordance with the Labor Law and the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law, effective October 1, 2026.
He concluded by affirming that the Ministry of Labor, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate, is currently conducting joint inspection campaigns to apprehend non-Jordanian laborers operating in violation of labor and residency laws, noting that violators will face immediate deportation.
