The ministry noted that the Kingdom was affected on Monday by a new, short-duration but highly effective weather depression, accompanied by heavy rainfall, hail showers, and active to strong winds across wide areas. Its effects began in the morning hours, with peak impact expected from midday until evening, before gradually subsiding late Monday night into early Tuesday.
The ministry explained that since yesterday, approximately 95 complaints and observations have been addressed by the Central Emergency Room. Most of these were related to rising water levels on main and secondary roads, as well as rock and mudslides caused by large volumes of flowing water, which led to the closure of some roads. Municipal and joint services council crews worked to reopen roads and address all reported issues.
As a precautionary measure, the ministry said a number of homes near Al-Mujib Dam were evacuated over concerns about water discharge after the dam reached capacity. Residents were relocated to designated shelters in cooperation with the administrative governor and the Civil Defense to ensure their safety.
The Ministry of Local Administration urged citizens to exercise caution, be mindful of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and rising water levels on roads, avoid valleys and flood channels, and refrain from taking risks, in order to protect lives and property.
It also warned of strong winds, calling on the public to secure or remove metal sheets, canopies, and any objects that could be blown away, and to strictly adhere to instructions and guidelines issued by the relevant authorities during the impact of the weather system. The depression is accompanied by severe winds, with gusts that may exceed 90 km/h, and the possibility of dust storms on eastern desert roads.
The ministry published an early warning map indicating a high-risk level in the municipalities of Irbid, Jerash, and Ajloun governorates due to very heavy rainfall and a high likelihood of flash floods and valley runoff.
By the afternoon hours, rainfall is expected to extend to central regions, with a moderate risk level in the municipalities of the Capital, Balqa, Madaba, Karak, and Tafilah, along with the possibility of rising water levels in some locations.
According to the map, during nighttime hours, heavy rainfall will be concentrated in Karak and Tafilah, gradually decreasing and subsiding by early Tuesday morning.
The Ministry of Local Administration confirmed that it has circulated updated weather maps to municipalities and joint services councils, instructed them to open emergency rooms, monitor critical sites on the ground, and enhance coordination with relevant authorities.
