This comes as part of the ministry’s approach to applying alternative penalties, which aims to achieve restorative justice and reduce the negative effects of custodial sentences.

Director of the Community Sanctions Directorate at the Ministry of Justice, Eid Al-Wreikat, said in a previous statement to Al Mamlaka that alternative penalties are applied in all misdemeanor cases, as well as in felony cases where the sentence does not exceed three years, provided that reconciliation is reached and the personal right is waived in felony cases.

He noted that there is a current trend toward implementing alternative sentences collectively, in line with legal provisions that require carrying out work for public benefit.

Al-Wreikat added that these penalties are deterrent in nature and align with the justice modernization approach, which focuses on rehabilitating convicted individuals in cooperation with various relevant entities.
