This came during the International Cooperation Forum, recently held in Switzerland, which brought together more than 1,600 global experts to search for ways out of the water and climate change crises.

Alaween, who is a regional water advisor for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation told Petra on Monday that he was chosen to take part in the forum as a speaker for the Middle East, where he tackled the challenges of joint water management in light of climate change, as well as prospects of cooperation.

“I delivered a study on the joint Yarmouk River Basin between Jordan and Syria, indicating the need to seal fair and sustainable bilateral agreements so that not only water, but also the benefits of joint water management such as energy and eco-tourism, are shared,” he added.

The Jordanian expert also reviewed the standard acceptable international agreements for the management of joint basins, which shall be taken into consideration to ensure their continuity.
