AMMAN — Jordan’s democracy index score fell by four points according to the 2020 edition of the Economist Group’s Democracy Index report, Al-Ghad News reported.اضافة اعلان

The index showed that the Kingdom ranked 118th globally and 8th regionally, scoring 3.62 points out of 10.

The index, based on several sub-indicators, evaluated the Kingdom’s electoral system, political pluralism, government performance, political participation, and political environment, among other things.

According to the evaluation, the rate of participation in Jordan’s 2020 parliamentary election, which was 29.9 percent, contributed to the drop in its ranking.

The report also attributed the decline to the COVID-19 pandemic, since the rankings of 19 other countries also fell due to pandemic-related, government-imposed restrictions.
