AMMAN – The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) announced on Wednesday that it conducted 132,000 laboratory tests last year on chemical products such as detergents, cosmetics, sanitary paper, engine oils, and food products, including oils, juices, and olive oil, as well as engineering such as lighting and energy-efficient lighting units.اضافة اعلان

The JSMO’s Director-General, Abeer Al-Zuhair, stated that the organization has two advanced laboratories for assessing energy efficiency, which work on lights and lighting systems. JSMO also has an automated analysis laboratory that conducts tests using advanced analytical technologies to detect preservatives in food and fraud or manipulation in olive oil, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

According to Zuhair, the organization also has Jordan's only accredited olive oil tasting lab, as well as labs for testing water and electricity meters, mass and volume labs, medical pressure and temperature tools, tire pressure measuring tools, and taxi meters.

She explained that these tests are used to check product conformity with technical regulations and specifications, as well as to assure the circulation of safe, ecologically friendly, energy-efficient items that benefit the national economy. In this regard, the organization produced 170 new standard specifications last year to keep up with the great advancements in production and expertise.

Zuhair explained that, in order to improve product quality, the organization has issued the Jordanian quality mark to 131 items in various industrial sectors for 52 facilities, four of which are located outside of the Kingdom, by the end of 2023. The mark indicates that the product is of higher quality than the criteria of its standard specification, giving it an advantage over competing items.

According to Zuhair, the organization also granted the Halal certification symbol to 95 products, ensuring that the product meets the requirements of Islamic law, which boosts confidence in these products and increases demand in the global market, where Halal products are in high demand. Last year, the agency provided 287 Halal certificates for exports, while also issuing 1,091 conformity certificates.

Zuhair acknowledged the group's encouragement to switch to organic products, and the organization certified the legitimacy of 305 organic product certificates last year. The organization also awarded two certificates for excellent agricultural practices to farms that agreed to meet the GLOBALG.A.P specifications. These techniques attempt to provide safe and sustainable agriculture, as well as increase farmers' opportunities to sell their products to global markets.

The organization also issues SHAMCI certificates for solar thermal collectors and solar thermal systems used for water heating. The SHAMCI certificate is mutually recognized by all Arab countries that are members of the SHAMCI network, giving the product confidence and expanding its Arab market reach.
