AMMAN — The Ministry of Health on Monday launched an
inspection campaign to ensure adherence to public health and anti-smoking
regulations, as part of a wider set of measures meant to curb the spread of
COVID-19.
Assistant secretary general for primary care at the Ministry
of Health, Ghazi Sharkas, said that the campaign will play an oversight role to
enforce Public Health Law No. 47 of 2008, which prohibits smoking in fully
enclosed public spaces.
He added that the campaign was launched in tandem with the
reopening of various business sectors, and the government’s recent decision to
allow cafes to serve argileh under certain conditions.
