AMMAN Transport Minister Wesam Tahtamouni stated that the government is focused on bolstering the role of maritime agents to elevate Aqaba Port's appeal, highlighting the availability of diverse shipping options by land, air, and sea, Khaberni reported.اضافة اعلان

Tahtamouni emphasized that international maritime routes persist in shipping via various pathways, aided by shipping alliances and feeder vessels. The minister underscored that the responsibility of offering these strategic alternatives lies with international shipping lines operating through international ports.

Regarding Jordan's import alternatives nearing Ramadan and the recent developments in the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, Tahtamouni affirmed their availability despite initial disruptions, attributing these issues to international disruptions and their consequent impact on costs and timing.

The ministry, along with the government, plays a crucial role in alleviating the effects of crises and strengthening international shipping lines and the private sector to offer logistical alternatives. This involves supporting the domestic logistics sector, streamlining customs procedures, establishing a financial cap for shipping fees to facilitate customs calculations, and ensuring the availability of appropriate storage facilities.

This is accomplished through international coordination among global shipping lines, ports, and feeder vessel companies, including those operated by the Arab Bridge Maritime Company. Additionally, coordination between shipping lines and feeder vessel companies is facilitated based on private sector requests. Approved facilitation measures include entry, berthing, and unloading of ships at the main port.

Regarding the Arab Bridge Company and potential agreements for cooperation with Iraq and Egypt concerning maritime transport, Tahtamouni confirmed that the company, jointly owned by the governments of Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq, is involved in offering multimodal transport services from Aqaba Port Passenger Terminal to Nuweiba, then further to Mediterranean ports for container transport via global shipping lines.

Furthermore, the minister regarded this line as one of the prominent strategic alternatives amid the ongoing crisis, providing valuable opportunities for success. The company endeavors to offer competitive shipping alternatives that are both timely and cost-effective.

In terms of the Iraqi-Jordanian Land Transport Company, it is currently undergoing liquidation procedures. As for the Syrian-Jordanian Land Transport Company, governmental measures are pending until the company's general assembly convenes.

Regarding resolving external travel issues, the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA) receives all proposals and problems submitted by operators of these lines. However, it notes several obstacles with relevant authorities in this regard.

In terms of hybrid vehicle approval, the LTRA, following consultation with the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department (DVLD), has found no obstacles to registering and licensing vehicles operating on hybrid systems. This is provided they comply with the conditions and instructions of the DVLD management.
