The 17 million euros in funds that were donated by Germany’s Federal Foreign Office will support the food and nutritional needs of refugees from Syria and other countries living in camps across the country throughout the remainder of 2021.

The contribution was announced at a joint press conference on Wednesday attended by German Ambassador to Jordan ,Bernhard Kampmann, and WFP Representative and Jordan Country Director Alberto Correia Mendes.

“For this year, it’s an emergency additional contribution, but we will face also the situation for the upcoming periods, 2022 (and) 2023. We try to encourage as many as possible to follow,” Kampmann said in an exclusive statement to Jordan News.

The WFP had previously cut food assistance to 21,000 refugees in July from lack of sufficient funding.

Currently, Germany is the single largest donor to the WFP in Jordan with a total contribution of 72.5 million euros.
