AMMAN — The value of the
electric tariff reduction for productive sectors — including the agricultural,
commercial, industrial, health, and hotel sectors — exceeded JD37 million from
April 2022 through the end of the year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra,
reported.

This figure marked an 8.5 percent
decrease from the same period of 2021.
Chairman of the Board of
Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority (EMRA), Ziyad Al-Saaida,
said on Saturday that the
electricity tariff was restructured as of early April
to direct government subsidies to eligible Jordanian household subscribers, in
addition to reducing tariffs for some productive sectors.
Approximately 1.5 million domestic
electricity meters have been registered on the EMRA website to benefit from the subsidized
tariff, out of a total 1.94 million domestic meters, he said.
Over 90 percent of the household
electricity bills included in the subsidy did not increase compared to the standard
tariff, while some witnessed a “limited decrease”, Saaida explained.
The website will continue receiving
requests to benefit from the subsidized electric tariff and will continue allowing
subscribers to make amendments to their registration data, such as meter
changes due to changes in place of residence, and registering meters for
Jordanians who are outside the Kingdom but plan to return.
