The campaign was conducted in cooperation with the Directorate of Water Basins and Drilling, the Directorate of Central Workshops/Water Authority, and in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, accompanied by security forces from the Public Security Directorate, the Gendarmerie, and the Royal Department for Environment Protection.
During the operation, a number of illegal wells in Wadi Al-Seer were sealed. These wells had been extracting thousands of cubic meters of non-potable water daily and selling it through unauthorized water tankers. In addition, a drilling rig was seized in Khan Al-Zabeeb, behind the Abu Ghlous warehouse, as it was being used to dig an illegal well.
The Ministry explained that, based on available information, a security campaign was coordinated early Wednesday morning in the Bayader Wadi Al-Seer area to backfill the illegal wells and confiscate five pumps. The sealing process was carried out by the Water Basins Directorate and the Central Workshops Directorate/Water Authority, with official reports prepared and referred to the relevant authorities for legal follow-up.
In Khan Al-Zabeeb, south of Amman, technical teams from the Water Authority, accompanied by Public Security and Gendarmerie forces, detected an illegal well being drilled, sealed it, and prepared the necessary reports. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and refer them to the competent judiciary.
The Water Authority commended the efforts of citizens who report such violations, stressing that the law considers tampering with water sources a crime punishable by lengthy prison sentences and heavy fines.
