AMMAN — A
seven-year old boy died on Tuesday after succumbing to second-degree burns
inflicted by his adoptive parents, who allegedly beat and poured boiling water
over the child, according to an initial police report.

The police
have referred the suspected Jordanian man and his wife to the prosecutor
general on charges of
premeditated murder, pending further investigation. The
report said the husband is of dual nationality, one of which is Jordanian,
while his wife is a foreigner.
The
authorities have yet to uncover the motive behind the child’s death and the alleged
abuse he and his three siblings suffered, as the case report revealed that
neither the children nor parents have previous records and that the family had
moved to Jordan only a few years prior to the incident.
A forensic
doctor at Al-Bashir Hospital told
Jordan
News that the burns covered roughly 50 percent of the deceased child’s body.
The
physician added that one of the boy’s siblings is currently recovering from a skull
fracture, but is in “stable condition”, and has now been transferred from the
intensive care unit into pediatric care.
He reported,
however, that the child is suffering of trauma and recalled hearing him
screaming his dead brother’s name while describing the events leading to his
death.
The court
has ordered the transfer of the three children to one of the
Ministry of Social Development’s care centers.
